If you run your own business, of course you want your employees to be kept safe and healthy, but you can't afford to spend a fortune on health and safety.  It can be frustrating if you don't know what to do to comply with the law, or if you haven't got the time to find out.  That's where we can help.
 
All employers have to comply with Health and Safety law, starting with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.  Depending on the type of business you run, there can be up to 30 other pieces of health and safety legislation you need to know about and comply with.  Worse, new and revised Regulations are coming into force every year.

Basically, if you have 5 or more employees (including family members and part timers) then you must have:
 
1.  A formal Health and Safety Policy.
2.  Written Risk Assessments for the work you do.
3.  Policy on control of the health and safety risks in your business.
4.  Arrangements to train your staff in health and safety.
5.  Proper supervision, especially for high-risk work and for inexperienced staff.
6.  Safe work equipment (and proper maintenance for it)
7.  A safe workplace.
8.  Safe systems of work that control any risks.

Of course, there's a lot more to it than that.  There is specific legislation on:

*  Hazardous substances (not just chemicals)

*  Noise at Work

*  Work at Height - and this even includes using stepladders in the office!

*  Managing safety on construction sites

*  Manual handling (see our page on this)

*  Use of computers (Display Screen Equipment - see our page)

*  Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessment

*  Use of Lifting Equipment (and that includes fork lift trucks)

*  Machinery safety

*  First Aid

*  Workplace safety & welfare (including what you should do about the new no-smoking Regulations)

*  Young persons (under 18) and new or expectant mums

..... and so it goes on

 

Unlike some health and safety firms, we do not sell 'Policies' or 'Risk Assessments' by phone or on the Internet.  You may be able to buy a piece of paper that way - but that's exactly what you are buying and a piece of paper will not protect your staff and your business.
 
All our health and safety systems are based on a visit to your premises or site and a full understanding of what your business is and the risks faced by your employees and anyone else affected - such as your customers.
 
If all you need is some advice, we can provide detailed Guidance Notes on all sorts of health and safety topics.  If you want us to write a policy or do your risk assessments for you, we can do that as well.  Basically, you decide how much help you want and we'll provide it.
